Covid-19 Changes to Terms and Conditions:

We want to give you peace of mind for your upcoming study plans, so we have revised our T&Cs to make them more flexible. The following terms are applicable to any bookings made from 1st April 2020. They apply to all face-to-face and online courses (with the exception of Pre-sessional English, where standard terms apply – see below).

Before Starting a Course – Cancellation on Postponement

If we receive notice of postponement or cancellation for a course more than 5 working days before the start of a course:

  • Tuition: no cancellation fee or course change fees. A full refund will be given or credit note valid for 2 years from the original start date.
  • Homestay: no cancellation fee. A full refund or credit note will be given.
  • Student house: no cancellation fee. A full refund or credit note will be given less the self-catering fee.
  • Quarantine package: no cancellation fee (if UK government guidelines change). The cost for the quarantine package can be refunded or credit note for two years.
  • Visa required countries: no cancellation fee however, a £300 deposit is required to issue a visa invitation letter. This is non-refundable but can be kept as credit note for 2 years if a postponement is necessary.

If we receive notice of postponement or cancellation for a course less than 5 working days before the start of a course, a credit note will be given for the remaining fees less the registration fee. If you are booked in our student house, 1 week’s (5 working days) accommodation will be charged with the self-catering fee.

Fit to fly:

Before you arrive in the UK, you will need to provide evidence of a negative coronavirus test taken within 72 hours before you fly. If you receive a positive coronavirus test result, you can postpone your course, and full credit will be given. Alternatively, you can join your course online until you are able to fly. Any accommodation unused during this time, will be refunded. We may ask to see evidence of your coronavirus test result.

Travel test package:

If you’re travelling to England, you must book a Travel Test Package before you travel. Should you receive a positive coronavirus test result during your quarantine period and are required to extend your quarantine period, your classes will continue online; you will be required to pay the additional full-board homestay supplement of £25 per week. You will be able to come to the school for face-to-face classes once your quarantine period ends.

Test to release:

You may be able to end self-isolation early through the ‘Test to Release’ scheme if you pay for a private coronavirus test. You must still take the 2 coronavirus tests you booked before you travelled. If the test is negative you can stop self-isolating as soon as you get the result. You may then be able to come into the school for face-to-face classes, subject to school approval.

After Starting a Course – Cancellation or Postponement:

  • Tuition: Credit will be given for any complete, unused weeks. The credit note is valid for 2 years from the original course start date.
  • Homestay: no cancellation fee. A full refund will be given or credit note for 2 years for any complete unused weeks.
  • Student house: 4 weeks’ notice is required. A refund or credit note will be issued for any complete unused weeks less the self-catering fee and 4 weeks’ accommodation fee.

Any credit note can be used for both online and face-to-face courses and is valid for 2 years from the original course start date. If the same course and duration is booked, we will waive any potential differences in the course fees. However, you will be liable for any increases in direct costs (for example accommodation, accompanied lunches, taxi transfers). Credit notes can only be transferred to close family members at the discretion of LSI/IH Portsmouth.

Change Fee:

Flexible no change fee policy: we will waive our normal changes fee for any amendment made to an existing booking.

In the Event of School Closure:

Should the school be forced to close by the UK Government due to a new wave of Covid-19 infections, the following will apply:

  • Tuition: all classes will move online. Should you choose not to continue the lessons online, a credit note will be given for any complete, unused weeks. The credit note is valid for 2 years from the original start date.
  • Homestay: if you choose to leave, no cancellation fee. A full refund will be given or a credit note for 2 years for any complete unused weeks. Should you stay in the host family, a full-board supplement of £25 per week may apply.
  • Student house: no cancellation fee. A refund or credit note will be issued for any complete unused weeks less the self-catering fee.

Our standard T&Cs apply to any bookings made before 1st April 2020:

  • Different cancellation terms apply to Executive courses (please refer to the course information and prices).
  • For full Pre-Sessional terms and conditions please see page 2 of the dates and fees sheet.

  • Homestay fees are refundable subject to 1 full week’s notice.
  • Self-catering fees are refundable subject to 4 weeks’ notice.
  • If you have a Student Visa, accommodation fees will only be refunded if you show us documentary evidence that you are enrolled and sponsored by another UK institution or have booked and paid for a flight home. Refunds are usually made to the person who paid the fees (not necessarily to the student). Bank charges are at your expense.
  • LSI/IH Portsmouth reserves the right to ask students to leave the school without refunding tuition fees in the event of misconduct, criminal behaviour or serious attendance problems. Please see the school’s website for our disciplinary procedures.

If this should happen, a copy of the visa refusal letter should be sent to LSI/IH Portsmouth and once received all tuition fees, less an administrative charge of £300.00 or less 10% of tuition fees, whichever is the higher, will be refunded.
  • Homestay fees are refundable subject to 1 full week’s notice.

  • University Halls of Residence fees are non-refundable in any case.

  • Unacceptable behaviour in school accommodation may result in students being asked to leave – we cannot guarantee that we will be able to find suitable, alternative accommodation.
  • Your level of English must be the required level for the course you have booked. If we think your level is not suitable for the course you booked, we reserve the right to move you to a more appropriate course. If the new course is more expensive, you will be expected to pay the difference. If the new course is less expensive, you will receive credit for the difference.
  • The School reserves the right to cancel or alter a course. If we do so, we will offer either an alternative course or a refund of all fees. If you decide not to take the alternative course offered, we will not be liable for any losses incurred by the student for cancelled travel arrangements.
